Cambridge Office Market to Feature NorthPoint’s First Commercial Property
The good news just keeps rolling in for the Cambridge office market. DivcoWest, a real estate development company located in San Francisco, is set to commence the design of the first-ever commercial building within the NorthPoint development area. This Cambridge office market building will stretch as far as Somerville. Divco purchased the site back in August of 2015 for over $290 million from Canyon Partners Real Estate LLC.
The total NorthPoint development area stretches 42 acres along the Charles River. It is the largest untapped development space in the Cambridge office market and one of the last infills in all of Boston. The area’s first commercial structure will be positioned on parcel JK. This central plot has enough space to permit the construction of an office, lab and retail site that spans an incredible 370,000 square feet. The building will stand over 140 feet in height. Nearly 350 parking spaces will be available in an underground lot.
Divco representatives have stated that this commercial site will be critically important o the development of a bustling mixed-use community. It will provide much-needed Class A office/life science space and over 14,000 square feet for retail purposes. The site will even feature an open space for public use that will be known as Baldwin Park. Though the details of the commercial site have not been finalized, it looks as though the project will move forward as originally planned. It will be discussed in-depth on December 6 at a Cambridge Planning Board meeting and December 8 at a Somerville Planning Board meeting.
